Impact of high-intensity gaming on heart rate variability (HRV)?
Hi everyone, I’ve been tracking my heart rate variability (HRV) for a research project I’m doing on stress triggers. I’ve noticed some pretty wild spikes whenever I’m doing high-stakes activities online—not just work, but even fast-paced gaming or sports betting.
Does anyone here have data or personal experience on how much these "adrenaline rushes" actually strain the cardiovascular system in the long run? I'm trying to see if there's a significant difference between pure cardio exercise and this kind of "sedentary" adrenaline. I feel my pulse racing even when I'm just sitting still. Any thoughts?

Lol, join the club. My Oura ring does this to me all the time when I’m watching MMA or if I have some skin in the game. I actually had a weird moment yesterday where I was checking some live odds on Playbet—just trying to see if my ETH bet would actually land—and my heart started thumping so hard I could feel it in my throat.
Honestly, I think it’s just the "instant" nature of these crypto sites. Everything happens so fast that the dopamine hit is just different, you know? I’ve been trying to practice some breathing exercises to keep the HR down during the games, but it’s tough when you're staring at the screen. I wouldn't overthink it unless you’re feeling dizzy or something, but yeah, maybe just take a break from the apps for a few days. That's what I usually do when I feel like I'm getting too hyped up.
